is surprised. She sees a picture in her husband's office that makes her realize that Emma's showing up in Devon was no happenstance. And then she gets a call about a tragic accident. The two boys have been in an accident and Sophie realizes that that may have been her biggest mistake of all.
The Friend was a good and quick read set in the quaint English countryside. Sophie was an empathetic character who just wanted a happy life with her husband and son. She was a good mommy to
Be, but, more than anything, she wanted another child. On the flip-side, Emma was not a very nice character. Something about her just rubbed me the wrong way. I also got an icky feeling about Mark. I just got a feeling that he was hiding something and it turns out that I was right. -

The Friend is a good British psychological thriller. You should read it if you are the kind that loves a good psychological thriller.
