Rainy gave up her life in New York City to move to Washington to be with her new boyfriend, Grant. She loves his isolated home in the woods. It is perfect for her work as an artist. But Grant is more social than Rainy and has encouraged her to join the wives and girlfriends of his friends. Which is how Rainy found her on a girl's trip to Las Vegas. Vegas is the last place that Rainy wants to be. It is too close to her past. When an awkward situation arises, Rainy escapes to the small town in the desert where she grew up. The small town that hides the compound that ruined her life. And then she gets a phone call, and she realizes that she has to go back to the compound. She has to put her life at risk to save the life of one of her new friends. Will Rainy be able to save her friend and finally put her past in the past?
I wanted to like An Honest Lie, I really wanted to like it. I will be honest, no lie, it was a stinker. The whole compound/cult storyline has been overdone. As has the "just go with the flow heroine." Rather than tell Grant the truth, she let herself be railroaded into a trip that she didn't want to go on. It irritated the snot out of me. Rainy is not a weak woman, why didn't she just say no? And then to drive out to the town? And her new friends? They are horrible people. I didn't even do spoilers for this book because this was one book that I was really glad to see end.
Bottom Line - Like I said, I really wanted to like An Honest Lie, I just didn't.
