It is New Year's Eve 1999 and the entire world is waiting to see what will happen when the clock strikes midnight. For a group of young Blockbuster Video employees, they don't care about Y2K, they just want to get the store closed so they can go to a party. Before the night is over, all of them are dead. Except for Ella. Now it is fifteen years later and the closing employees of an ice cream shop are slaughtered. Except for one. The principal of the students slaughtered asks Ella to come in and speak to the survivor. She can relate, after all. And FBI Agent Sarah Keller is called in to connect the two cases. Is there a connection between the two cases and will she be able to solve the case between her twins are born?

Night Shift really hit the ole nostalgia button for me. I was a Blockbuster Store Manager when I was in my late 20's and I worked many a night shift with young kids. The details the author gave about the Blockbuster store were pretty darn accurate. However, I don't know of any Blockbusters that had a true break room for their employees. They often were more of multi-purpose rooms with a table for meals. That night at the Blockbuster store clearly messed up Ella. She pretended to be a functioning adult, but she couldn't clearly maintain a relationship. But Ella was the only person who could understand what Jessica was going through. The book alternates narrators to give you different perspectives. There were a lot of surprises that were revealed throughout this book, but it kept me on the edge of my seat. Bottom Line - Night Shift is a world class thriller that is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat!
