When Persephone Fraser's parents bought a cabin at a lake outside of the city, she was a little worried about leaving her friends in the city. Until she met the boys next door, Charlie and Sam Florek. The older brother Charlie was always looking to have a good time, even if that was at somebody else's expense. Sam was bookish and ambitious, determined to be a doctor. Sam and Percy were nearly inseparable from the first time they met. And they were that way for almost six years. Now, twelve years have passed, and Percy is returning to the lake for the funeral of Charlie and Sam's mother. The trip forces Percy to face the mistakes that were made. Will Sam be able to forgive Percy and put the past behind them?
Percy tells their story through a series of flashbacks. Interspersing present-day moments, too. I liked both Percy and Sam and was rooting for them from the beginning. Something about their story was tender and nostalgic. It made me wish I had the kind of childhood where I summered at the lake. All the flashbacks hinted at this horrible thing that happened and my imagination must be twisted because it wasn't as bad as what I was envisioning. CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS
Bottom Line - Every Summer After was a delightful read from a talented new author. I can't see what Carley Fortune does next.
