Elizabeth Zott wants nothing more than to be a chemist. She will put up with the requests to make coffee and do secretarial work if it means that she gets to be in a lab. It was at the lab that Elizabeth Zott meets Calvin Harris. A man who thinks that she is brilliant and should have the same opportunities that he does. When their relationship is tragically cut short, it left Elizabeth Zott to raise their daughter alone. When Elizabeth Zott meets a single father, she finds herself a new career. As a television celebrity chef. Elizabeth Zott uses her platform to teach housewives all across America some basic chemistry disguised as cooking, but it really is not what she wants to be doing. She wants to be working in a lab, continuing Calvin's work. Will Elizabeth Zott ever get back to a lab?

I had seen some chatter about Lessons in Chemistry in various groups and I am really glad that I pulled the trigger, even though historical fiction isn't one of my usual genres. Elizabeth Zott reminded me of a kinder Sheldon Cooper. She saw things in black and white and made no compromises. She was an excellent mother, both to Mad and to Six Thirty. I would get so infuriated on her behalf at the way those at Hastings treated her. I would have never survived in the fifties. And there are still some religions and some cultures that still treat women as if all they are good for is making coffee. CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS It makes me appreciate how far we have come in this country. Not only do we have a female Vice-President, but she is a Person of Color!

Bottom Line - The book Lessons in Chemistry has struck a chord with women all over the country. So much that Apple TV noticed, and there is already a television series in the works starring Brie Larson. It will be must-see tv!
