What a fabulously, fun book!
Anisha Lahkani has written the Devil Wears Prada of the Manhattan Private School scene! And she has done a wonderful job of giving us all of the juicy gossip!
Despite her parents protests, Columbia grad, Anna Taggert has accepted a position teaching 7th Grade English at the prestigious Manhattan private school, Langdon. Anna is just sure that she will be the coolest, hippest teacher ever. But she doesn't realize that she has stepped into another world. Into a world of the extremely over-privileged middle schoolers.
After struggling to pay her bills a fellow teacher introduces her to the hidden world of "tutoring". A world where her time is worth $250 an hour and reading a book assigned to the student can garnish a $2000 tip.
Soon Anna is gauging her time in "tutoring sessions" and sending her classes to the library, rather than teaching them. She is caught up in trips to Starbucks & Barneys.
Schooled won't win any literary awards, but much like The Devil Wears Prada, it will ensnare you in a world that most of us will never know. It is a funny, engrossing, SCARY book that will have you turning pages furiously!
Schooled is on sale August 5th, but you can pre-order it here. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?ean=9781401322878

Ooooh, this sounds really good! I'll have to get this. No wonder I haven't seen it since it hasn't come out yet. Will it be a hardcover or a paperback?

Lisa, I stuck the book in my work bag, the next time I see you at work, remind me & it shall be yours!

Alea - I look forward to hearing what you thought!

I saw this in Barnes and Noble the other day, read the prologue, and really liked it.

I would feel very betrayed if I were one of her students. Even though the book doesn't specifically pick people out, it casts a particularly bad image on children who go to private schools.
