Piper Bellinger is a little bit spoiled. Her stepfather is a wealthy movie producer and has been very indulgent with his stepdaughters, Piper and Hannah. But when Piper gets arrested after a wild, destructive night, her stepfather has had enough. He exiles Piper to her small hometown in the Pacific Northwest to revive her late father's dive bar. Hannah is too close with her sister to let her embark on this journey alone. Piper is desperate to prove to her stepfather that she is worthy of being welcomed back into their Hollywood home. They find a lot of ghosts in the small fishing community, but also the very handsome Brendan. As they make progress on the bar, Piper starts to wonder if the glam life is really what she wants.
Take my advice, It Happened One Summer is not a book to listen on audiobook without earbuds. 😮 I was listening to it over my speakers that really made me not like this book very much. Piper and Hannah were great characters, and I loved the chemistry between Brendan and Piper, but the sex scenes? They were laughable. Like I laughed out loud and rewound, "Did they really just say that?". I think if I had been reading the book in print, I would have glossed right over it. There is another book out there with Hannah's story, but I am not sure I am going to read it. As much as I liked Piper and Hannah, I just wasn't invested enough.
Bottom love - While I really love a good romance, listening to it on audio really ruined the book for me.
