Forensic Pathologist, Wren Muller, is very good at her job. She solves the most complex cases that ends up on her autopsy table. She has intimate knowledge of serial killers and uses that knowledge to solve crimes. But her most recent case has perplexed even her. It is clear that the person behind this madness has a psychopathy that runs deep. Will Wren be able to solve this case before another victim is claimed?

The Butcher and the Wren is fast-paced thriller told from alternating viewpoints. And as the reader learns, alternate timelines. Wren is a smart, yet cautious character. She has a history that led her to her career, and you eventually learn that history. The Butcher and the Wren was definitely a "cat and mouse" kind of book, but I often felt like I was the mouse. I hate books that don't give you a conclusion to try and get you hyped for the next book. At just 256 pages, I would rather read a really long book that is well written and satisfying. The cliffhanger was to keep readers coming back, but I am not sure that I got invested enough in Wren with just 256 pages. I am not sure I care enough to read the next book in the series.

Bottom Line - I love a great serial killer thriller, but I hate books that leave me hanging under the guise of a sequel.
