Gwen Proctor has one mission in life and that is to keep her kids safe.  Their life was turned upside down when Gwen discovered, the hard way, that her husband was a serial killer. After fighting to prove her own innocence, Gwen packs up her children and goes on the run from her husband's psycho followers. Gwen and the kids find themselves in a cabin on Stillhouse Lake in Tennessee.  They have changed their names, yet again, and have gotten comfortable in their new lives. Gwen has even gotten comfortable with the handyman, Sam. And then a woman is found in the lake. She was tortured and all of a sudden Gwen is afraid that their real identities are not as secret as she thought they were. She has to decide, does she take her kids on the run once again or does she stand and fight for the life they are making at Stillhouse Lake.

Stillhouse Lake has been lingering in my library for quite some time. I am not sure why I waited so long. Gwen Proctor is a seriously bad-ass woman, but she didn't start out that way. She was one of those passive wives who was blind to her husband's considerable faults. Once she realized that her husband was a monster, her entire personality changed. She went into full-on survival mode and she was going to protect her children from the evil chasing them at all costs. It was commendable. Having said that, I didn't really find myself connecting with her as a character. I didn't find myself trying to see ahead to the "whodunit" - I didn't really care, because I wasn't connected. The only thing that really surprised me was Sam's connection. - CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS.

Bottom Line - While Stillhouse Lake is the first in a series, I am not sure that I am going to pick up the other books in the series. I just wasn't that interested and I know that there are a lot more books out that will hold my interest. But I would love it if you could prove me wrong!
