Louisa Sullivan was thrilled to meet a new friend at her son's school. And Louisa feels lucky that Darcy Lane wants to spend time with her. She seems to have all.  The perfect son, the perfect husband, and the perfect house.  But Louisa feels fortunate that a woman such as Darcy wants to be her friend.  But then something Darcy starts to change in subtle, hurtful ways.  Like suggesting to have a joint birthday party for their sons, only to leave Joe out of everything.  Or when Darcy volunteers to help LouisBoa with her weekly column, only to steal the column out from under her. What is worse, though, is that Louisa's husband doesn't believe her.  Things go from bad to worse when Darcy's husband is found dead and the police think Louisa did it.  Will Darcy ever be able to convince the police and Jared that not only that she is innocent and that Darcy is evil?

You know that I love a good psychological thriller that keeps me on the edge of my seat.  The Best Friend had all of the potential to be that, and for the most part, it did.  But I hate main characters who are stupid. And Lousia did some really stupid things.  Okay, maybe she wasn't stupid, but completely naive. It was very early in their friendship that my red flags were flying all over the place regarding Darcy.  Something just felt "off" to me from the very beginning.  I was yelling at the book when Louisa agreed to let Darcy help her with her column. What came next was very predictable. I will say that for a long time, I couldn't figure out who Nicole was during the flashbacks.  Or where Callum fits into the story in the present. The book was pretty slow-paced until the very end.  And then it went downhill fast. - CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS -

Bottom Line - As irritated as I was with Louisa, The Best Friend, was still a great psychological thriller. Crazy characters, shady past, and a woman on the run. All the makings of a great book.
