Hannah Hall feels that her life is about as perfect as it can get. Her career is really taking off and as a newlywed, she is happier than she ever dreamed possible. Sure, her relationship with her stepdaughter, Bailey, could be better, but she feels it is improving. Then she gets a message from her husband that says "Protect her." And that was the last contact she had with her husband, Owen. Federal authorities raided his office, accusing Owen of many terrible crimes, but he was gone. His disappearance sends Hannah and Bailey to Austin hoping to track down a lead on where Owen could have gone. Instead of finding Owen, they discover they don't know Owen at all. Will Hannah and Bailey be able to find Owen? And will Hannah be able to keep Bailey safe in the process?
The Last Thing He Told Me is a fast-paced thrill ride. As a stepmother myself, I could relate to Hannah on so many levels. She desperately wanted to connect with Bailey, but it wasn't until she was willing to sacrifice everything that Bailey started to really let her in. It was that level of sacrifice that really made me think that I could be friends with Hannah. It was even a little heartbreaking. - CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS. The end wasn't the ending you would expect, which is just another reason The Last Thing He Told Me was such an excellent book.
Bottom Line - The Last Thing He Told Me is a book about a woman desperate to keep her child safe, at all costs. Even though Hannah didn't give birth to Bailey, she loves her as much as any mother loves their child. And as a stepmother, I can relate. With every fiber of my being, I can relate.
