Penelope Ruiz-Kar is drowning. With a career that is starting to take off, two young children, and a husband who barely participates in their life, she is just plain old exhausted. And then a tragedy strikes shaking Penny to her core. Life is short and precious. And her marriage is failing. Together Penny and Sanjay decide that they are going to work on their marriage. They each have a list of things they want the other to work on. Penny wants Sanjay to get a job, help more around the house, and be present when they are together. Sanjay wants Penny to have sex more often. They have committed to each other to work on their marriage, but is it too little too late?
I'm Fine and Neither Are You was a fast and engrossing read. Penny is utterly devoted to her family. And in this case that is a problem. I think women all over the world can relate to what Penny is going through. Rather than rock the boat in her household, she does it all. And it is slowly killing her. It annoyed me the way she didn't expect more from her husband. And I think it annoyed Sanjay, too. More than once it occurred to me that they weren't functioning as a team and I think that is a necessary quality in a marriage. They weren't working towards the same goals. At first. In the end, things worked out in a way that has the reader breathing a sigh of relief.
Bottom Line - Marriage is hard, it really is hard.
I'm Fine and Neither Are You is a story about one marriage and the two people who are fighting to save it.
